About Me

Hola! My name is Irene. I was born in Madrid, Spain, and ever since I was young, I’ve been curious about what else was out there in the world.

In Spanish, we’d say I’m a culo inquieto, someone who can’t quite sit still, is always curious, and is constantly looking for what’s next.

At 29, I moved to Los Angeles, California, which became home for nearly a decade. Then, at 38, I decided it was time for another bold move. I sold most of what I owned, quit my corporate job, left behind the comfortable life I’d built in LA, and moved to Costa Rica for a year.

Little did I know that this would be the beginning of a side quest I hadn’t even realized I was signing up for.

Since then, I haven’t really had a place to call home. I’ve been exploring Central and South America, discovering new places, meeting people along the way, and learning to embrace a life that doesn’t always come with a clear plan.

Somewhere along the way, I also discovered a passion for mountaineering. What started as curiosity has grown into a desire to explore higher mountains and take on high-altitude expeditions. I’m still learning, building experience, and figuring out just how far I want to take it.

At 40, my life looks a little different from what I once imagined it would. I’m not following a conventional path, and I don’t have everything figured out. But I’m spending more time doing the things I love, challenging myself, and staying curious about what’s next.

Why CAMINOS?

I created CAMINOS to document this journey and share the practical side of these adventures: solo travel tips, mountain adventures, gear recommendations, and honest reflections on navigating life along the way.

Most importantly, I’d love to help others take that first step toward traveling solo.

If you’re planning your first solo trip, I hope I can help with resources, practical advice, and lessons I’ve picked up along the way.

And if you’re a beginner mountaineer, or simply curious about getting into the mountains but don’t know where to start, I’ll be sharing my own experiences as I continue learning and progressing in the sport.

Everything I share comes from personal experience. This isn’t about having all the answers or pretending to be an expert. It’s about sharing what I’ve learned, what has worked for me, what hasn’t, and what I’m still figuring out, honestly and as organically as possible.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin. Sometimes, you just need to take the first step and see where the path leads.

Welcome to CAMINOS.

This is, and always will be, a safe space.

Everyone is welcome here.
